Intermediate dancers are at an exciting time of their studies. Girls have begun pointe and boys are learning the men’s steps they’ll be performing for the rest of their lives. In performances, in addition to the large group pieces they have already become familiar with, dancers perform more challenging choreography in smaller groups, and perhaps even solos. They will be taught choreography from the classic full length ballets and begin to recognize and differentiate between them.

At the advanced stage, the students’ bodies and minds have been prepared for much harder work. They have learned to relish that work and the joy that it brings them. Students learn ever more intricate corps de ballet (group) work and principal roles from the great ballets and contemporary choreographers. Pas de Deux (partnering) is incorporated, and students may begin enrolling in competition if they like. Most advanced students take many hours of class per week, developing the endurance and long, supple muscles required for advanced study.

Ballets 4 through Pro hold an honored position within RAB, and as the pillars of the academy, they are expected to lead by example, supporting our culture of inclusivity and excellence in this art.
 

While the majority of time is spent studying classical ballet, The Conservatory has a strong contemporary program as well.  

The Classical Program focuses on the development of classical lines, poise, pointe work and mens' steps.  Dancers learn and perform selections from the classical canon.

The Contemporary Program involves dancers in the creation of new works.  Through the study of contemporary movement, improvisation, and student choreography, students deepen their understanding of their own voices and will be well-prepared for work in the professional world of today.
