At 7 years old, children are ready for a more focused and challenging class. They spend more time at the barre, and proper technique is insisted upon. Once students come away from the barre, though, their hard work is duly rewarded, and they begin to really learn to dance. Gradually, the fact that they are part of something important dawns on them, fostering a feeling of mutual respect amongst the classmates and instilling a genuine feeling of the kind of confidence that can only be earned. Participating in the performances serves as a great inspiration to these little ones, providing a living context for their efforts in the studio.

As students progress, their class begins to look the way that it will for the rest of their dancing life. Strength and flexibility become a stronger focus, preparing their bodies for more rigorous study at the higher levels. Great care is taken, because each child is different, and none are ever pushed too hard. Students are challenged, but not reprimanded. Rather, they are repeatedly reminded that art is the study of beauty, and it is worth their greatest effort. Work in the center becomes more extensive, and at the end of Ballet 4, students are ready to begin studying pointe or men’s steps.
